This role supports the Head of Section in managing marine engineering activities related to the design, development, coordination, implementation, execution, and control of marine works within Major Projects, ensuring alignment with the Company’s strategy, commitments, and goals.
The position provides specialized technical guidance in marine engineering, including problem-solving, decision-making, and analysis of marine infrastructure and facilities, applying innovative and analytical techniques to achieve Project objectives.
The role-holder is also responsible for promoting, adhering to, and ensuring compliance with COMPANY’s Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental, Energy, and Quality systems and standards.
What are you going to do
Marine Engineering Design & Technical Management
Lead the review, coordination, and integration of marine engineering deliverables (jetties, quay walls, revetments, breakwaters, dredging, marine pipelines).
Review and accept technical specifications for all marine systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with Project specifications and international standards (API, BS, DNV, PIANC).
Coordinate with EPCC Contractor and Subcontractor (design consultants) to resolve technical queries and ensure timely issuance of Issued-for-Construction (IFC) documents.
Review and validate design calculations, drawings, and specifications for constructability, operability, and maintainability.
Participate in the review and technical evaluation of bids for marine works and equipment, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
Review the preparation of Purchase Orders by EPCC Contractor for marine scope, providing technical input and clarifications as needed.
Review and accept Subcontractor documentation, including method statements, fabrication drawings, and quality plans, ensuring compliance with contract and project standards.
Interface & Multidisciplinary Coordination
Act as the focal point for marine engineering interfaces with civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and product handling systems.
Ensure alignment of marine infrastructure with ammonia and urea loading systems, utilities, and onshore facilities.
Coordinate with construction, commissioning, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of marine systems into the overall plant infrastructure.
Technical Risk, Safety & Model Reviews
Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, and 3D model reviews for marine scope, ensuring all technical and safety risks are identified and mitigated.
Lead or support constructability reviews and design risk assessments for marine infrastructure.
Ensure all marine engineering deliverables undergo appropriate technical reviews and assurance processes.
Engineering Change, NCR & Claims Management
Evaluate technical impacts of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
Coordinate with Contracts and QA/QC teams to assess whether NCRs warrant negative Variation Orders (VORs) or contractual adjustments.
Review and respond to contractor-submitted VORs related to marine scope, validating or refuting claims based on technical merit and contract compliance.
Fabrication, Inspection & Expediting
Oversee fabrication activities for marine structures and equipment at vendor and subcontractor facilities.
Participate in inspections as per Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), including factory acceptance tests, welding inspections, and coating checks.
Monitor and expedite fabrication and delivery activities in line with the project expediting plan, ensuring timely readiness for site installation.
Site Construction, Mechanical Completion & Commissioning
Oversee site construction activities for marine works, ensuring compliance with IFC drawings, method statements, and safety standards.
Monitor progress, resolve technical issues, and support the construction team in achieving mechanical completion milestones.
Participate in punch list walkdowns, verification of completion, and readiness for commissioning.
Support and participate in commissioning activities for marine systems, ensuring smooth handover to operations.
Spare Parts & Vendor Package Coordination
Review and validate marine equipment data sheets, specifications, and vendor documentation.
Ensure completeness and compliance of spare parts lists, special tools, and preservation requirements for marine systems.
Coordinate with procurement, construction, and operations teams to ensure readiness for handover and long-term maintainability.
Documentation, Close-Out & Lessons Learned
Ensure proper documentation of marine engineering deliverables, including as-built drawings, design reports, and vendor documentation.
Support the preparation of engineering dossiers for mechanical completion, commissioning, and handover.
Contribute to lessons learned and technical close-out reports for marine scope.
Regulatory & Environmental Compliance
Ensure marine designs and construction activities comply with local environmental regulations, port authority requirements, and maritime safety standards.
Coordinate with environmental consultants and permitting authorities as required.
Essential skills and knowledge
Bachelor’s Degree (12+4 years)
Professional Certification
Minimum 10years relevant work experience, with at least 5 years in in major projects.
