Introduction

  • To participate in the development of data science strategy and tactics to support the company’s strategic objectives to become a data driven company.
  • To promote data science & analytics to increase business insights to resolve business problems or support decisions making processes.
  • Develop innovative PoCs and end-to-end data analytics solutions with high value adding in terms of business impact.
  • Contribute and propose ways to maximize the value of geosciences, operations, HSE, CPD and MP, etc. data.
  • To manage relationships with internal and external vendors for data science.

  • Study: Ideation and experimentation
    • Lead, manage and conduct data science pilots (big data and / or GenAI, Machine Vision), MVP or UC in coordination with business and Digital Business Solutions SMEs.
    • Conduct data science studies through complex quantitative analysis and modelling independently and efficiently.
    • Develop algorithms and data driven analytical solutions to enable in-house use case building.
    • Translate the output of analysis into practical recommendations.
    • Proactively explores diverse analytical techniques and communicates foundational concepts with clarity, while effectively influencing strategic decisions through upward communication.
  • Use case: Envisioning & conceptualization
    • Support use case framing providing input regarding company’s readiness in terms of data and best modelling methodology for the use case idea.
    • Participate proactively in the design strategy in terms of technological choices, implementation of platforms & definition of priority subjects under the leadership of the Lead Data Scientist.
    • Create technical specifications of the models and requirements for integration for the technical scope of work.
    • Understand company data sources and performs queries to translate business requirements into data-driven solutions.
    • Ensure and develop relations with vendors (software/technological vendors and consulting firms) related to data science matters.
    • Facilitate market scouting and vendor selection during Call for Tenders (CFT), evaluating bidders' technical capabilities.
  • Use case: Development
    • Supervise and provide guidance for the execution of the vendor-led data analytics/science scopes of PoC, MVP and/or UCs.
    • Coordinate with the Development head, PO and Scrums in case of any issues & contribute proactively to their resolution.
    • Oversee the e2e design and implementation of analytics models by the vendors, ensuring the required quality.
    • Provide feedback in sprint reviews, to the product owner, scrums and Digital management.
    • Propose and animate communication related to data science in coordination with data management groups (is and technical depts.)
    • Identify the needs of the technical departments in terms of analysis and visualization of structured and/or unstructured data through big data and/or data mining approaches.
    • Support user acceptance testing of the models delivered by the vendors.
    • Explain sophisticated data science concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Use case: roll-out
    • Ensure and promote the adoption by the users of the concepts and possibilities provided by data science within the technical departments.
    • Support the transition to project/use case mode & support the implementation and deployment at scale of big data and/or data analytics solutions.
  • Use case: Enhancements
    • Support the required re-training and enhancement of the models.
    • Develop algorithms and data driven analytical solutions to enable in-house enhancements development.
    • Monitor new methods as well as software and hardware technologies and technological trends.
    • Participate in the development of partnerships to develop solutions and/or methods.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Data Science: Proven track record of developing and implementing machine learning models, advanced analytics solutions, and data-driven decision-making strategies
  • Industry Expertise: Experience working in the oil and gas industry, with a strong understanding of its challenges, processes, and data types (e.g., seismic data, production data, reservoir data).
  • GenAI Expertise: Hands-on experience with Generative AI technologies, including building PoCs/ solutions using large language models or other generative frameworks.
  • Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python is required. Additional experience in Spark is a plus.
  • Data Manipulation Tools: Good experience with SQL, Pandas, and other data processing tools.
  • Machine Learning Frameworks: Experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, or similar libraries.
  • Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure including their AI and data services is a plus.
  • Visualization Tools: Proficiency in Power BI, or similar visualization platforms.
  • Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, or Databricks is an advantage.
  • Statistical Analysis: Strong foundation in statistical modeling, hypothesis testing, and predictive analytics.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to translate complex business problems into actionable data science solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration, effectively communicating technical concepts, from foundational principles to advanced methodologies to diverse stakeholder audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management: Setting clear expectations, fostering trust through transparent communication, and applying empathy to build lasting, collaborative relationships.
  • Demonstrates mastery of the English language across spoken, written, and active listening skills, enabling clear, empathetic, and effective communication in diverse professional settings.
