What are you going to do

Seeking a Project Engineer with a focus on Instrumentation & Controls. The ideal candidate will have project engineering experience within an operating facility and a proven ability to manage multiple Instrumentation & Controls projects simultaneously. This is a contract position.

Location: Beaumont, TX (~30%) and Sabine Pass, TX (~70%).

  • Prioritize environmental protection and the health and safety of employees, customers, and the surrounding community. Participate in HSE reviews, field observations, permit audits, and housekeeping inspections as required during project execution.
  • Manage projects through all phases, including status updates, forecasting, cost control, schedule management, change management, documentation, and project closeout.
  • Collaborate with project owners to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables that support progression through a stage-gate project management process.
  • Develop project cost estimates, schedules, and funding requests using vendor information and current market conditions.

  • Work with discipline leads to identify applicable company and industry standards, specifications, policies, and procedures, ensuring project compliance.

  • Assemble specifications, procedures, scopes of work, and supporting documentation into bid packages. Coordinate with procurement teams during bid evaluation, review, and award processes.

  • Interface directly with equipment and material suppliers to define requirements, obtain quotations, and support procurement activities.

  • Plan, manage, and oversee contractors, project costs, schedule performance, and scope execution.

  • Coordinate drawing reviews, document reviews, RFIs (Requests for Information), change requests, and change orders, ensuring revisions are incorporated into project documentation.

  • Coordinate activities between contractors and internal groups, including Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Turnaround Planning. Work with maintenance planners to schedule field activities.

  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance personnel to facilitate work permits and support commissioning and startup activities.

  • Develop project turnover documentation and binders, including check sheets required for mechanical completion, commissioning, and startup.

  • Ensure all modifications are properly documented, incorporated into master records, and returned to Operations in a timely manner.

  • Degree in Engineering or Technology with 12+ years of industry experience.

  • Experience managing small capital and expense projects within operating facilities, with demonstrated success handling multiple projects concurrently.

  • Experience managing project budgets and schedules within established targets.

  • Knowledge of equipment specification development and procurement processes.

  • General knowledge across several of the following areas, with expertise in at least one:

    • Field Instrumentation and Controls
    • Actuated Valve Design and Operation
    • Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Systems, and PLC-based packaged equipment
    • SmartPlant Instrumentation
    • Wireless technologies and devices
    • HMI graphics development and deployment
    • Analyzer systems and communications/telecommunications systems
    • Instrumentation cabling, wiring, junction boxes, power distribution systems, UPS systems, TCP/IP networks, and SCADA systems
    • Modbus networks, including switches, routers, Ethernet, fiber optics, and transmission systems
  • Experience supporting marine vessel loading infrastructure and related instrumentation is preferred.

  • Experience performing and coordinating loop checks, functional testing, site acceptance testing, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with commissioning and startup planning and execution.

  • Working knowledge of petrochemical industry safety work management practices.
