Introduction

We are currently hiring an Engineering Portfolio Team Lead for our nuclear client in Peterborough, ON. This role will be responsible for supporting engineering resource planning, scheduling, and project execution while leading a document control team. This position is a 16 month - contract opportunity.

What are you going to do 

  • Lead conceptual design and detailed cost estimating for mechanical system upgrades.
  • Develop business cases and prepare comprehensive client reports.
  • Lead the creation, maintenance, and updates of engineering resource plans and project schedules.
  • Develop and implement standardized project planning practices (WBS, schedule updates, nomenclature, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Engineering Team Leads weekly to enhance scheduling and work planning.
  • Monitor and report SPI and CPI metrics across projects using earned value methodologies.
  • Maintain P6 resource dictionary and support overall engineering resource allocation.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance schedule accuracy and minimize unassigned work.
  • Coordinate cost/schedule commitments and contribute to budget control efforts.
  • Provide direction and oversight to the unionized Registry (document control) team.
  • Lead team meetings, approve timecards, and support recruitment and onboarding efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement when managing unionized staff.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings including operations and monthly reviews.
  • Inquiry to Order (ITO) Phase: Collaborate with teams to develop initial schedules and refine them throughout the bidding process.
  • Order to Remittance (OTR) Phase: Develop and update fully resourced Level 3 schedules, monitor performance indicators, and support Project Managers in identifying risks and schedule recovery strategies.
  • Ensure ERP and Primavera P6 schedule data consistency and accuracy.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with Primavera P6.
  • Strong analytical and data analysis capabilities.
  • Proven time management and independent work skills.
  • Effective communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Leadership qualities and the ability to motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Experience managing mid to large-scale engineering or manufacturing projects.
  • Background in engineering design, project coordination, commercial operations, or team leadership.
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the nuclear industry is a plus, though not required.
